South London – not the most obvious choice the vast majority would pick out as a cultural fashion and music hub.
But history consistently says ‘big up south’ when looking at some of the industries most important and impactful figures.
Fashion-wise, we have John Galliano, Alexander McQueen, Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss – all by-products of the greatest region of the capital.
Add to this, the small matter of south London’s finest musical talents – from legends like David Bowie to The Rolling Stones, and modern day greats like Adele, RAYE and Lola Young.
Those names represent just how vast the many different identities of south London are – and just how culturally significant the area is.
Something different happens here when it comes to creatives.
The tropes we’re so often labelled with; brash, loud, gobby, over-the-top, in your face – these are traits that are viewed with contempt in wider society.
But they’re all traits that make a fucking fantastic artist, or designer, or performer.
Those tropes probably why we’re churning out the best crops of talent in the arts.
With south London’s significant role in shaping music and fashion, it’s only fitting that’s where Worn Out’s origins begin.
Delving into fashion and music impact, it’s impossible to ignore the creative talent of the south – which means we’re in the perfect place to write about it.
There must be something in the water, right? (Though, admittedly, I only drink bottled).
We’ll keep a special eye on south London specifically as we delve into culture more on this site – but thought it might be good to understand the roots of Worn Out.
Worn Out was created by a worn out south Londoner, born and raised.
It probably explains why I would even have the audacity to make a website like this.
But given that being from this region might make me gobby, loud, brash or over-the-top, you’ll be in for some entertaining content.
